Kumasi-based actress cum producer Tracy Boakye has denied claims on social media that she was in a relationship with former President John Dramani Mahama ahead of the 2016 polls.
Ms Boakye came under heavy criticism when she publicly campaigned for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its candidate Mr Mahama.
She was most often at the receiving end of criticism and abuse by some sympathisers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on social media, with many suggesting she was dating the former president and had only endorsed him for financial reward.
But speaking on Entertainment Capital on Accra100.5FM on Saturday 13 May, the Devil Between My Legs producer said it is “impossible” for her to date Mr Mahama.
Asked by show host Bismark Boachie [DJ Premier] if she ever dated the former president, the Oh Vera actress said: “This question is not funny. What is going on on social media is not funny. He is a statesman; you can’t just say something simple like that, let’s respect our elders. I have seen many stories that say I’m dating him but I decided to ignore because I ask myself’ ‘Is this even funny?’ He is a decent elderly man who respects himself, so how is it possible? This is the [former] president we are talking about. He doesn’t know me, I only endorsed him. He saw me in Kumasi once or twice, I don’t even know if he will recognise me today but then you say I’m dating him, how? It’s impossible.”
Meanwhile, Ms Boakye said she would campaign again for Mr Mahama should he get the mandate from the NDC to lead them into the 2020 polls.
